Pat Roberts Developmental Centre
An Adapted Nursery School For Children From Birth To 6 Years Of Age
In partnership with parents, our mission is to provide an early stimulation program adapted to children with developmental issues and a positive, proactive support to their parents. We only get one childhood.
The values of the Centre are:
· Parents are the first and most important educators in the life of their child,
· Play is the foundation of all learning,
· Strong families = strong children = strong communities.
Children with developmental issues often have a childhood interrupted by therapies and structured educational activities so as to reduce the effects of their problems. Clearly, all these approaches and therapies can be beneficial to the children, but we often forget that children learn mainly through play. The Pat Roberts Developmental Centre offers little ones with developmental problems a stimulating play environment in a controlled social situation (ratio 4 children to each specialized educator). Educators use a variety of approaches to stimulate and develop language/communication skills, motor skills, autonomy, emotional well-being and self-esteem while respecting each child’s individual rhythm. The role of parents as principal educators is highly respected and they will find positive and proactive support at our Centre.
Educators meet parents formally at least once per year, but verbal or written exchanges take place at least 2 or 3 times weekly.
We ask parents to evaluate their experiences at the Pat Roberts Developmental Centre yearly by filling out an national on-line evaluation created and managed by FRP Canada and developed for the purpose of evaluating early childhood centres.
Children at our Centre come from all 10 cities and boroughs of the West Island of Montreal, but we also from Laval, L’Ile-Perrot, Notre-Dame de-l’Ile-Perrot, Hudson, Lasalle and other areas of the region.
Although a diagnosis is not a pre-requisite to attending the centre, children referred need to present with delays in more than one area of development. Global developmental delays, chromosome disorders, autism spectrum disorders are amongst the most common reasons children are referred to the centre.
Registration is on-going. Please contact us for more information.
”Words cannot really express enough my gratitude for their amazing ongoing genuine support for me and my family. Being a single mom this is extra special to me! The staff at the Pat Roberts Centre are not only your child's educators, they are your support system, your friends, and are just simply amazing.”
“As a parent of a child with ASD, I have nothing but praise for the people at Pat Roberts Centre. My son began attending the Center in September and since then, I have seen a dramatic increase in his social interactions, attentiveness to his environment and in his conversation skills. Within a few months, he will be ready for a regular, non-specialized preschool, a fact that I attribute equally to the skill and dedication of the staff and volunteers of Pat Roberts Center and the opportunity to begin therapy almost immediately after diagnosis.”
"Pat Roberts Centre is a very professional and friendly environment. I am very comfortable with them and very grateful. I would absolutely recommend this school to anyone who has a special needs child. It is a wonderful experience for both mother and child.”
“Here, our children are like all other: CHILDREN! It's not about what one can do or the other can't; it's about helping each one of them accomplish his or her full potential. It's about sharing experiences with the educators and parents, transcending language, skin color or religion. It's about getting help and support...and giving some in return. Above all, it's about families loving their children and wanting to give them the best possible start in life.”
